For many systems the basic automatic stats collection is good enough; but there are always a few cases where the DBA or developer has to do something a little out of the ordinary when collecting statistics to get the best possible trade-off between resource consumption and accuracy. In this webinar I'll be looking at two features that arrived in 11g that can help to reduce resource consumption while increasing accuracy: the "approximate NDV" mechanism and "column group" statistics.
