Oracle Database Wrap-up from Oracle OpenWorld 2012

Oracle Database Wrap-up from Oracle OpenWorld 2012
Oracle President Mark Hurd kicked off Oracle OpenWorld 2012 in his Monday-morning keynote describing Oracle’s holistic, aggregate strategy for product innovation that makes things simpler for customers. Hurd acknowledged customers are tasked with both innovation and austerity agendas and indicated that only Oracle can tackle both of those agendas simultaneously.

Oracle Exadata X3
Next in the keynote session, Juan Loaiza, Oracle senior vice president of Systems Technology, took a broad look at the transformational technologies behind Oracle Exadata, including unified workloads, PCI Flash technology, and engineered systems. Nat Natarajan, vice president of technology operations at PayPal, joined Loaiza on-stage to discuss how Oracle Exadata is supporting PayPal's massive transactional needs.

Loaiza also discussed newly launched Oracle Exadata Database Machine X3. The ideal database platform for the varied and unpredictable workloads of cloud computing, Oracle Exadata Database Machine X3 combines massive memory and low-cost disks. The result: the highest performance in the industry at the lowest cost. Benefits include

  • Submillisecond latency. Interactive online transaction processing with millions of users.
  • Subsecond analytics. Real-time decision-making and instant reports.
  • Ten times faster parallel jobs. Dramatic acceleration of processes such as quarter close, payroll, supply planning, field inventory, pricing, route planning, and subledger accounting.
Oracle Database: Continuing to Help IT Meet Challenges
Acknowledging that IT departments today are tasked with accelerating projects with flat budgets, Andy Mendelsohn, Oracle senior vice president of Database Server Technologies, showed how Oracle Database innovation can help customers accelerate IT projects, protect enterprise data, lower IT costs, and add value to the business.

Mendelsohn was later joined on stage by NBA legend Jerry West, who highlighted the value of teamwork in a sporting and business context to address common challenges and successfully meet IT goals.

The keynote addresses are now available for on-demand viewing.
