Tom Kyte's 2014
Resolutions
Oracle technologist and
architect Tom Kyte offers his resolutions for 2014. Read on—maybe they'll
apply to you too!

- Learn something new about Oracle almost every day.
It still surprises me to find something new in Oracle Database. And
you might think that after using Oracle for more than 25 years there
wouldn't be anything I didn't know—but there is. Oracle Database 12c
delivered a whole slew of new things to learn about.
- Get the third edition of my book, Expert Oracle Database
Architecture, out. The second edition was current up to
Oracle Database 11g
Release 2. This update will include Oracle Database 12c.
- Keep looking for the simple solution. I was just
reminded of that recently when I stumbled upon this short story for engineers
by an anonymous author.
- Teach someone something new about Oracle Database
or other technology any chance I get. That way, they'll be able to
solve future problems by themselves.
- Look for patterns where I can apply the new row
pattern–matching capability in Oracle Database 12c. Read more
about this key new feature.
- Learn a new technology outside the comfortable
realm of Oracle Database—it will broaden my horizons.
