"Secuenciamiento de actividades en procesos de desarrollo esbelto de software"

Craig Shallahamer

Craig is a researcher, writer, and teacher for 1000s of Oracle professionals. His focus is Oracle performance management, which has led to a string of publishing over 24 technical papers and authoring the books Oracle Performance Firefighting and Forecasting Oracle Performance. Craig is the creator and teacher of the popular Advanced Oracle Performance Analysis, Oracle Performance Firefighting, and the Oracle Forecasting & Predictive Analysis courses. After nine years with Oracle Corporation in which he co-founded the Core Technologies and the System Performance Groups, in 1998 he left Oracle to start OraPub, Inc. He is a passionate educator, a pinnacle of Oracle knowledge, and an engaging instructor. His entertaining presentation style combines with his depth of Oracle experiences to make each presentation unique. He has taught 1000s of Oracle professionals on 6 continents in 23 countries.

Title: The Average Deception

The word "average" immediately congers pictures of a nice evenly balanced figure with sometimes the results being higher and sometimes the results being lower. However, in Oracle performance analysis this is rarely the case. This reality mismatch, observing it and using it to our analysis advantage, is what this presentation is all about. Interestingly, experimental and production system evidence shows SQL elapsed times, wait event times, transaction arrival rates, and the time to service a transaction are clearly not normally distributed. By understanding what actually occurs we can communicate more clearly, better set expectations, focus on what is really important, anticipate solution impact, and draw many interesting conclusions. Join us for a surprisingly useful look into deeper Oracle performance analysis.

Title: Introduction To Oracle Buffer Cache Internals

While Oracle's buffer cache consists entirely of database blocks, the buffer headers and the supporting lists/chains are what makes the buffer cache a consistent topic of importance, interest, and challenge. Using creative visualizations, the presentation begins by introducing the key buffer cache structures followed by Craig role playing as a server process performing a variety of server process related activities. This naturally leads into when and how CPU is consumed and how the various buffer cache related wait events manifest, such as free buffer waits, read by other session, and cache buffer chain and LRU latch contention. Both new and experienced Oracle DBAs will find this presentation informative, practical, and entertaining.

Presentation Title: Unit of Work Time Based Performance Analysis

Most Oracle performance analysis is now time-based with the focus on "total time": Time to process a SQL statement, a batch process, or the CPU consumed plus Oracle wait time that occurred over an interval. With just a couple twists, we can unit Operations Research queuing theory with Oracle time-based analysis, opening up an entirely new arena for advanced performance analysis. Starting with an AWR/Statspack report, this presentation will teach you how to a perform a Unit of Work Time Based Analysis, show examples of how Oracle systems behave surprisingly as operations research indicates, and introduce how to inject your performance solutions into the analysis.

Name: Clonedb: The quick and easy cloning solution you never knew you had
Do you think cloning a database a tedious and time consuming job? It's certainly not difficult, but would you rather be doing anything else?
The latest Oracle database patchset 11.2.0.2 includes a new undocumented feature called Clonedb that makes database cloning fast, easy and
saves on storage space.  In attending this presentation you'll have a chance to learn about Clonedb, how it works, when to use it, and watch a
live demonstration, giving you all you need to use this feature at work.

Name: A Cure for Virtual Insanity: A vendor-neutral introduction to virtualization without the hype.
You've heard of virtualization and you know it's at the heart of most consolidation and enterprise cloud strategies, but then it all gets a little...
"cloudy". In this presentation you'll learn the concepts, products, pros and cons of virtualization without the smoke and mirrors and definitely no
sales pitch. By the end of the presentation you will understand which products are most suitable for your requirements and what questions you
should be asking before embarking on a virtualization project.

Bio:
"Oracle ACE of the Year 2006" Tim Hall is an Oracle DBA/Developer and well known Oracle blogger at
http://www.oracle-base.com. If that isn't enough,
he's written two books and over 400 articles, is an Oracle ACE Director, has presented at numerous user groups and conferences worldwide and recently
 presented a series of 2-day PL/SQL tuning seminars in Europe and Asia-Pacific as part of the "Oracle University Celebrity Series"

Sheeri Cabral (GT,HN,CRC)
Sheeri's mastery of database tuning and monitoring is an enormous advantage for any client. She led one of Pythian's MySQL teams and the Boston office for almost three years. Her record of successes includes database administration for DB security firm Guardium, and for Online Buddies, where she managed the databases for an extremely high-demand web application. Sheeri also brings a great deal of systems administration acumen to all of her work, having handled large heterogeneous networks with several varieties of Unix, Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh systems for Tufts University. Sheeri holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science (Specialization in Databases) from Brandeis University. She is a MySQL Certified™ DBA and was MySQL’s Community Advocate, Communicator and Facilitator of the Year for 2007 and 2008, and wrote the MySQL Administrator's Bible, published in 2009.

MySQL security

MySQL security is critical to most organizations, and is not limited to only ACLs. Sheeri Cabral, Oracle ACE Director for MySQL, explains many different parts of MySQL security, including encryption, data flow, and even considering what data should be kept.

Get rid of cron scripts using MySQL events

For over 6 years MySQL has had events, a powerful tool to execute procedural SQL. Unlike cron scripts or scheduled jobs, events are stored and backed up with the database itself, and no passwords need to be stored. Sheeri Cabral, ACE Director for MySQL and author of the MySQL Administrator's Bible, will explain events in detail, including syntax, when to replace cron scripts (and when not to), replication caveats, and more.
Events can be scheduled to:
* run once
* have a certain start datetime
* have a certain end datetime
* run periodically
In addition, events:
* do not disappear when they are not enabled
* can be re-enabled
* use "procedural SQL" similar to stored procedures and triggers
* can be defined to be disabled on slaves
The most popular use cases for events are etl and periodic data aggregation for use in caching information.
MySQL query optimization with EXPLAIN
Just about anyone can write a basic SQL query for a table. Not everyone can write a *good* query though - that takes practice and knowing how to understand what the optimizer is doing with the query. Oracle ACE Director for MySQL Sheeri Cabral will teach the basics of query optimization so you keep your application engaging the user rather then showing the progress bar as they wait on the database.

Debra Lilley (GT,HN,CRC)
Debra Lilley is Oracle Alliance Director for Fujitsu, she has worked with Oracle applications since 1996 (EBS 9.4.1) as Support Manager, Functional Consultant, Discoverer and then BI lead. Her role is now about strategy and education of both Fujitsu people and customers. She is President of UKOUG and Chairman of the Product Development Committee at the IOUC. She was User Group Evangelist of the Year in 2008.
Should I Upgrade or go to Oracle Fusion Applications?
This session's speaker had the privilege of working with the Oracle Fusion Applications development team throughout the development of Oracle Fusion Applications, on behalf of all Oracle user groups. One thing they did was collect questions for a Q&A every quarter, and by far the most common was, "Do I upgrade, or do I go straight to Oracle Fusion Applications?" This presentation looks at the different factors you need to consider so you can make the right choice for yourself. You need to know all the facts, all the considerations, all the risks, all the options, and all the costs. Only then can you start to plan your strategy. The answer is simple: it depends—let's understand on what.
Your Path to Understanding Fusion Applications
This session, produced by the IOUC Product Development Committee, presents a simple guide to understanding Oracle Fusion Applications, with a roadmap to skills. Each area identified includes a presentation, a video, or a podcast to further your education.
What Do Fusion Applications tell me about my own Enterprise?
So you have seen Fusion Applications, you like them but the business benefits for moving don't stack up yet. But you really liked the way it brought everything together. If only you could have that seamless process in your current HR system or your financials close was as slick? Well you can, the technology underpinning Fusion Apps, Fusion Middleware can give you that in your enterprise
Extending Fusion Applications
The design principles behind Fusion Applications give the richest User experience, but no application does what you want ‘out of the box’. Oracle has multiple ways to extend Fusion applications without creating the ‘customization hell’ that we have created for ourselves with other applications. This presentation will explain how it works.
Consolidation to the Cloud
Talk of the cloud dominates IT, and I’m pleased the conversation has moved on from ‘what is the cloud?’ to ‘what it can do for you? Here in this light hearted presentation we will explore the benefits for you, your enterprise and what you can do on that road to the cloud. Consolidation is key, do you need a common support level, bringing all your database versions into line, upgrading your applications to the latest version and their integrations to a common consolidated platform. A consolidated approach to BI and perhaps a single view of enterprise processes. Consolidating hardware brings big savings in database costs and green efficiencies, and finally a private or public cloud. Think consolidation and where on the scale your organisation can get the best return today

Francisco has received the ACE Director of the year (aka Oracle Evangelist of the year) 2010 award by Oracle Magazine Editor's Choice Awards and recently presented a series of 2-day Mastering Backup & Recovery seminars in Europe and Asia-Pacific as part of the "Oracle University Celebrity Series"

Logging or Nologging: That is the question!

The main question about NOLOGGING I hear all the time is: does creating a table with the NOLOGGING option means there is “no generation of redo ever”, or just that the initial creation operation has no redo generation, but that DML down the road generates redo? How and when can the NOLOGGING option be employed?

Redo generation is a vital part of the Oracle recovery mechanism. Without it, an instance will not recover when it crashes and will not start in a consistent state. Excessive redo generation is the result of excessive work on the database. This presentation covers the subject of reducing redo generation using LOGGING and NOLOGGING options, the differences between them, how it happens, how to reduce it and when to use. Also, you will find examples and tips regarding each one of them.
