Debido al anuncio oficial de Microsoft, de abril de
2014, sobre el fin del soporte para Windows XP, Oracle no ofrecerá
soporte oficial para Java en esta plataforma. Haga clic para acceder al anuncio oficial de la empresa.

Oracle espera que todas las versiones de Java, que
eran soportadas antes del anuncio del fin del soporte técnico de Microsoft, continúen
funcionando en Windows XP en un futuro próximo. En particular, la empresa
prevé que JDK 7 continúe funcionando en el Windows XP.

Las actualizaciones de seguridad lanzadas por Oracle
seguirán estando disponibles para computadoras de escritorio con Windows XP.
Los usuarios que descarguen el JDK 7 en java.oracle.com o en java.com continuarán siendo capaces de instalarlo en Windows XP.

JDK 8 no es soportado en Windows XP, y existen problemas
conocidos con el instalador para Windows XP que impiden la instalación de Java
sin intervención manual. Oracle está buscando alternativas para solucionar este
problema, pero puede decidir no aplicarlas. Para Oracle, no está claro para si
vale la pena que los usuarios de Windows
XP actualicen Java 8 sin también actualizar el sistema operativo.

El punto importante es que Oracle no puede continuar
ofreciendo garantía completa de Java en Windows XP, ya que este sistema ya no
es actualizado por Microsoft. Oracle recomienda encarecidamente que los
usuarios actualicen a una nueva versión de Windows que aún sea soportada por
Microsoft para mantener un entorno estable y seguro.

Nuevo Oracle Database 12c 12.1.0.2.0 con "Essential In-Memory"
En un tiempo relativamente corto, hemos recibido la nueva revisiòn del motor de base de datos Oracle Database 12c 12.1.0.2.0, con la novedad del nuevo esencial IN-MEMORY, cuyo precio es idéntico al esencial OLAP o Analytics.
Por razones de reglamentación no debo hacer referencia a precios de productos, así que dejamos el dato a la gente de los departamentos comerciales.
Este esencial, esta disponible sólo en la edición Enterprise y aplican los mismos mínimos de otros esenciales.
La documentación para esta nueva versión no ha sido liberada aún, pero pronto debería estar disponible.

Oracle Database 12.1.0.2 was officially release today and is now available for download, which mean Oracle Database In-Memory is officially here!
Along with the software release comes a whole new set of collateral that explains in detail how all of the new Oracle Database In-Memory functionality works. The In-Memory page on Oracle.com has all of the juicy details including the official whitepaper.

Introduction
Today’s information architecture is much more dynamic than it was just a few years ago. Business users now demand more decision-enabling information, sooner. In order to keep up with increases in demand, companies are being forced to run analytics on their operational systems, in addition to their data warehouses. This leads to a precarious balancing act between transactional workloads, subject to frequent inserts and updates, and reporting style queries that need to scan large amounts of data.
With the introduction of Oracle Database In-Memory, a single database can now efficiently support mixed workloads, delivering optimal performance for transactions while simultaneously supporting real-time analytics and reporting. This is possible due to a unique "dual-format" architecture that enables data to be maintained in both the existing Oracle row format, for OLTP operations, and a new purely in-memory column format, optimized for analytical processing. In-Memory also enables both datamarts and data warehouses to provide more ad-hoc analytics, giving end-users the ability to ask multiple business driving queries in the same time it takes to run just one now.
Embedding the in-memory column format into the existing Oracle Database software ensures that it is fully compatible with ALL existing features, and requires no changes in the application layer. Companies striving to become real-time enterprises can more easily achieve their goals, regardless of what applications they are running. This paper describes the main components of Oracle Database In-Memory and provides simple, reproducible examples to make it easy to get acquainted with them. It also outlines how Database In-Memory can be integrated into existing operational systems and data warehouse environments to improve both performance and manageability.

Row Format vs. Column Format
Oracle Database has traditionally stored data in a row format. In a row format database, each new transaction or record stored in the database is represented as a new row in a table. That row is made up of multiple columns, with each column representing a different attribute about that record. A row format is ideal for online transaction systems, as it allows quick access to all of the columns in a record since all of the data for a given record are kept together in-memory and on-storage.
A column format database stores each of the attributes about a transaction or record in a separate column structure. A column format is ideal for analytics, as it allows for faster data retrieval when only a few columns are selected but the query accesses a large portion of the data set.
But what happens when a DML operation (insert, update or delete) occurs on each format? A row format is incredibly efficient for processing DML as it manipulates an entire record in one operation i.e. insert a row, update a row or delete a row. A column format is not so efficient at processing row-wise DML: In order to insert or delete a single record in a column format all of the columnar structures in the table must be changed.
Up until now you have been forced to pick just one format and suffer the tradeoff of either sub-optimal OLTP or sub-optimal analytics performance.

Oracle enlaza sus aplicaciones de inteligencia social a LinkedIn

Oracle ha enlazado su suite de software SRM (social relationship management) a LinkedIn, una acción para proporcionar al personal de marketing y soporte al cliente una forma de alcanzar a los 300 millones de usuarios de la red social de negocios.
La integración con LinkedIn proporciona la capacidad de publicar páginas de LinkedIn Company y Showcase, las cuales pueden apuntar a un público seleccionado de acuerdo a factores como la localización geográfica, tamaño de compañía e industria, sostuvo Oracle en su anuncio.
También será posible interactuar con comentarios en estas páginas, señaló Oracle. También hay algo de analítica, como reportes sobre el número de comentarios que una publicación en particular ha generado, de acuerdo a Oracle.
Oracle SRM es solo un componente del grupo de herramientas de software que apuntan a alcanzar a los clientes y prospectos a través de múltiples canales, y que construyó a través de una serie de adquisiciones en los pasados dos años.
Para ese fin, también el miércoles, Oracle anunció una serie de mejoras a varios componentes en su familia de productos de nube para marketing.
Una de las actualizaciones importantes se centra en el llamado modelamiento “look alike (verse igual)”. Este tipo de modelamiento permite a los equipos de marketing que buscan nuevos prospectos hacer su trabajo mediante la construcción de modelos basados en clientes con atributos deseables.
Los marketeros pueden luego aplicar los modelos a la plataforma BlueKai de Oracle, la cual agregar información de perfiles de clientes de más de 200 proveedores de datos. Los marketeros pueden buscar en los cientos de millones de perfiles a los que da acceso BlueKai y encontrar las igualdades para sus modelos look alike.
Es posible generar modelos “muy ricos” con tan solo unos cuantos clics, sostuvo John Stetic, vicepresidente de productos de grupo de nube para marketing de Oracle.
Otra mejora anunciada apunta a enviar contenido de marketing a dispositivos móviles.
“Todos se dan cuenta que la movilidad está afectando las actividades de marketing”, afirmó Steve Krause, vicepresidente de gestión de productos de nube para marketing de Oracle. “Ves la necesidad de mejorar la movilidad en todos lados”.
Responsys, la herramienta de automatización de marketing de Oracle, puede ahora enviar notificaciones SMS a los clientes con dispositivos móviles, pero con un nivel de sofisticación mayor que simplemente un mensaje general a una gran lista de clientes.
Por ejemplo, los clientes pueden optar personalmente por recibir mensajes SMS de un sitio web que tiene ofertas que involucren cantidades limitadas de un producto; el SMS serviría para notificarles que se apuren si desean el producto.
“Estamos pasando de un modelo en donde todos reciben el mismo SMS a un modelo en donde es más personalizado”, indicó Krause. “Este es un gran cambio. Necesitamos dar a los marketeros la capacidad de enviar su mensaje a los clientes cuando y donde lo quieran”.

Abstract: In Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud model, users can request the infrastructure for applications through the Self Service Portal. This session will focus on how to implement such a Iaas Self-Service with Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) 12c and Oracle VM. This session will cover the IaaS cloud architecture; creation of VM templates/ assemblies using Virtual Assemble Builder (OVAB), and how to setup the Self-Service deployment mode with Oracle VM templates and virtual assemblies. You will learn the configuration of the entire stack of this infrastructure cloud built on Dell platform and how to use EM12c to manage the entire stack of the cloud architecture including hardware through Oracle EM12c’s Dell Dell OpenManage plug-in.
