Según artículo The New York Times: El Ejército de EE.UU. manipula las redes sociales para fabricar la realidad

Gran parte de la labor de inteligencia que realiza EE.UU. la llevan a cabo empresas privadas que "no solo ocultan sino que fabrican la realidad" para ese Gobierno a través de un tipo de 'software' que "manipula los medios de comunicación social".

En un artículo publicado por 'The New York Times' titulado 'La verdadera guerra contra la realidad', el diario desvela cómo el Ejército de EE.UU. y empresas privadas de inteligencia han creado un sistema de gestión del comportamiento 'on-line' de las personas con la finalidad de "luchar contra la ideología extremista y la propaganda antiestadounidense".

Se trata de un programa desarrollado por petición expresa de la Fuerza Aérea de EE.UU. que permite controlar múltiples identidades en línea (denominadas 'títeres') para realizar comentarios en espacios de comunicación social, crear falsos consensos sobre determinados temas, arrinconar las opiniones no deseadas por el Gobierno de la Casa Blanca y sofocar comentarios e informes que no se correspondan con sus objetivos estratégicos. 

Algo muy similar al empleo de 'Psyops' (operaciones psicológicas), utilizadas como parte de la estrategia militar estadounidense y que es definida en el 'Manual de capacitación para la guerra no convencional' de los militares como "operaciones planificadas para transmitir información e indicadores seleccionados al público extranjero con el fin de influir en sus emociones, motivos, razonamiento objetivo y, en última instancia, en el comportamiento de Gobiernos extranjeros, organizaciones, grupos e individuos".

Según el psicólogo estadounidense Peter Ludlow, "se trata de un método eficaz para engañar a una población generando una falsa realidad, en lugar de imponer su voluntad por la fuerza". 

Para el analista Anthony Gucciardi, el objetivo de esta "guerra cibernética" no es "mejorar la reputación internacional" del Ejército de EE.UU, como sugieren los comandantes militares de ese país, sino promover "el desarrollo de una importante red de ordenadores que hacen circular constantemente mensajes específicamente escritos para ser publicados en las redes sociales y las páginas de comentarios de noticias", algo que el Ejército de EE.UU. argumenta que se realiza "en nombre de la seguridad".

El estudio, conducido por el profesor de ciencias cognitivas, Anthony Jack, postula que, normalmente, una persona se mantiene en equilibrio entre dos redes neuronales definidas: una para el razonamiento lógico y la otra para atender nuestras necesidades sociales.

Por desgracia, los experimentos del equipo concluyeron que la mente humana no puede atender ambas redes al mismo tiempo, por lo que al trabajar con una, la otra es suprimida.

Llega a la oficina o laboratorio y se sienta en silencio a trabajar, a veces, aislado en sus audífonos. Nunca recuerda los cumpleaños y aunque lo haga, no saluda. Le cuesta interactuar con los demás y, cuando lo hace, nos sorprende por su carencia de tacto ante situaciones sociales.

Si esta descripción te es conocida, probablemente tengas algún amigo científico, ingeniero o programador cuya falta de empatía -por no llamarle antisocial- trasciende fronteras. “¿Por qué este sujeto es incapaz de ponerse en los zapatos de los demás?”, suele ser una pregunta frecuente ante sus reacciones.

La respuesta: no puede pues, para ser un profesional exitoso, su cerebro debe funcionar así.

Esta es la asombrosa conclusión de la Universidad de Case Western Reserve en Estados Unidos, tras determinar que cuando el cerebro humano se aboca por completo a una tarea que requiere sus habilidades analíticas, sus habilidades sociales simplemente se van de vacaciones.

El estudio, conducido por el profesor de ciencias cognitivas, Anthony Jack, postula que, normalmente, una persona se mantiene en equilibrio entre dos redes neuronales definidas: una para el razonamiento lógico y la otra para atender nuestras necesidades sociales.

Por desgracia, los experimentos del equipo concluyeron que la mente humana no puede atender ambas redes al mismo tiempo, por lo que al trabajar con una, la otra es suprimida.

“Es parte de la evolución de nuestra estructura cognitiva. El pensamiento empático y analítico son, al menos hasta cierto punto, mutuamente excluyentes en el cerebro”, explicó Jack.

El hecho de que el cerebro tuviera dos modos de razonamiento diferentes era un concepto ya conocido. De hecho, una teoría postula que una de las redes está construida para realizar tareas dirigidas, mientras que la otra permite a nuestra mente divagar. Otra versión afirma que en realidad una de ellas maneja la atención externa, mientras que la otra se dirige a la atención interna.

Pero independiente de las interpretaciones, este nuevo estudio que ya sea que se nos presenten problemas analíticos o sociales -ambos estímulos externos- el cerebro elige la red adecuada para procesarlos, suprimiendo automáticamente la otra, algo que que el equipo comprobó analizando patrones de respuesta por medio de una resonancia magnética en 45 sujetos de prueba.

“La desconexión entre nuestro entendimiento experimental y nuestro entendimiento científico se conoce como la ‘brecha explicatoria’. En 2006, el filósofo Philip Robbins y yo concebimos una teoría bastante loca: que la brecha explicatoria está determinada por nuestra estructural neuronal. Ahora me sorprende percatarme de cuán coherentes son estos resultados con aquella teoría”, consignó Jack al portal científico Science Daily.

“Esto demuestra que las personalidades científicas realmente dejan algo fuera: la sensibilidad humana. Un gran desafío para la ciencia cognitiva ahora será cómo podemos traducir mejor las descripciones mecánicas frías y distantes que produce la neurociencia y el entendimiento intuitivo y emocional que nos permite relacionarnos entre nosotros como personas”, sentenció.

Desde la depresión hasta el autismo

Pero el hallazgo no sólo permite saber por qué nuestro colega tan genial en el trabajo es, a la vez, tan raro en los eventos. También abre un nuevo campo de investigación para los desórdenes neuropsicopáticos, que van desde la ansiedad y la depresión hasta la esquizofrenia, todas las cuales son disfuncionalidades sociales de algún tipo.

Más aún, la nueva teoría permitiría comprender mejor condiciones como el autismo -que presenta una altísima capacidad para resolver problemas visual-espaciales y para manipular figuras de dos y tres dimensiones, pero con habilidades sociales muy pobres- o por el contrario, para el síndrome de Williams -que presenta individuos cálidos y amigables, pero deficientes en habilidades visual-espaciales.

Y yendo aún más lejos, el descubrimiento también explicaría por qué algunos individuos, imbuidos en sus labores, pueden alejarse de sus principios morales.

“Quieres tener a un Gerente altamente analítico en una empresa para que la dirija eficientemente, pero este sujeto puede extraviar su brújula moral si se queda pegado en este tipo de razonamiento. ¿Cómo ese mismo Gerente pudo ser tan ciego para no percatarse de la crisis de relaciones públicas que iba a provocar su decisión de despidos masivos para recortar costos?”, plantea Jack.

“Nunca podrás usar ambas redes al mismo tiempo, pero lo que debemos tratar es de circular eficientemente entre ambas, y sobre todo emplear el mecanismo de razonamiento correcto, para la situación adecuada”, concluyó.

• EBS 12.1.1 or higher
• Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_03 (32-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (32-bit) and higher
• Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_32 (64-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (64-bit) and higher

EBS 12.0 Prerequisites

Compatibility Mode for IE 10 + EBS 12

To prevent issues with certain OA Framework pages, you should run IE 10 in "Compatibility Mode." See the "Known Issues" section in Note 389422.1 for more details.

JRE 1.7 is certified with EBS 

There appears to be some inaccurate information lying about on the web that claims that JRE 1.7 is not certified with the E-Business Suite. 

This is incorrect.  Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline, and from JRE 7u10 and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 and JRE 7 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 and 7 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team. 

You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 or JRE 7 releases to your EBS users' desktops.

"JInitiator version too low" errors

Some non-Oracle staff are claiming that "JInitiator version too low" errors confirm this incompatibility and lack of certification. 

In fact, if you're getting a "JInitiator version too low" error, it means that you've missed applying the Forms patch required to enable JRE 1.7 compatibility. Simply apply that patch and your EBS environment is ready for JRE 1.7 clients.

In my last blog post, I outlined the basic differences between different varieties of Cloud offerings. Remember the two defining characteristics of any category of Cloud Service offerings –

· The Cloud Service level determines what you can see, configure and manage and

· The Cloud Service level determines the interface to the Cloud Service

There has been a fair amount of confusion on this topic and the Oracle Database Cloud Service. The name of the offering, and Oracle’s history as the leading enterprise database in the world, has let people to assume that the Database Cloud Service is a Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS), while the Database Cloud Service is actually a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

If you go back to the two defining characteristics for Cloud Services, you can see that there is a clear distinction between a DBaaS and a PaaS that uses an underlying database –

· With a DBaaS, you would have access to the database instance itself. You could configure (within the limits of a shared resource environment) the instance to suit your particular needs. You would also have to manage the database instance, although some basic maintenance, such as backup, may be included as part of the DBaaS. With a PaaS, you would not have access to the underlying database, or any of the other software you would need to develop and deploy applications, such as web servers. All of this software would be included in your Service, and managed as part of the Service.

You would access a DBaaS in the same way you access a database instance – for Oracle, through SQL*Net. For a PaaS, you would access the database the way an application accesses the database – through SQL or PL/SQL. 

With these distinctions in mind, the Oracle Database Cloud Service is clearly a PaaS. You cannot connect to a Database Cloud Service with SQL*Net, and you do not have to install, configure or manage any of the software used to support the Service. 

A DBaaS, such as Amazon’s RDS, would allow you to access the database with SQL*Net, with best practices calling for you to use a dedicated network connection with a VPN. You would have to manage this network connection and its software and any other software you would use to support your application development and deployment environment. A PaaS would allow you to access the development or deployment environments via a URL and run both of them inside the Cloud, using SQL and PL/SQL running in the Oracle Database in the Cloud.

Which type of Cloud Service is right for you? Well, it depends on what you want to accomplish. If your goal is to move your Oracle Database from your in-house environment to a Cloud, you should be looking for a DBaaS offering, since this is the only piece you will be moving. You will still have the responsibility and overhead of managing the rest of your IT environment. And you should be aware of the fact that moving to a DBaaS is still a migration, requiring data movement, testing and frequently some adjustment in your overall operating procedures.

If you are looking to create solutions for business problems, with as little startup time and ongoing maintenance as possible, you would be better served by a PaaS, such as the Oracle Database Cloud Service. You could start with a DBaaS and add in the software you need to bring it up to the level of a PaaS, but you would be responsible for the purchase, installation, configuration and ongoing maintenance of this additional software. Of course, you would have a wide amount of flexibility in choosing and using this software too.

I hope this brief blog has helped clarify which type of Cloud Service you should be looking at to address your needs. In the next blog, I will go into more detail on the type of solutions that are best suited for a PaaS.

Simplificando la instalación de Oracle Database 12c en Oracle Linux 6

En el último mes, me la he pasado hablando del nuevo motor de base de datos Oracle 12c, de sus cambios a nivel de arquitectura ( Contenedor de base de datos CDB y bases de datos acopladas PDB  ), ventajas del nuevo opcional de Enterprise Edition Multitenant, nuevas características, Oracle Enterprise Express y  el ambiente CLOUD; sin embargo, nadie por el momento, me ha preguntado, sobre las ventajas o desventajas en el proceso de implementación de esta nueva versión.

Para Oracle Linux 6, podemos simplificar la instalación utilizando el paquete oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall. Una vez que se baje el el paquete y sea instalado, este podrá a partir de una instalación mínima del Oracle Linux o cualquier otra instalación preferida ( Desktop, Workstation, etc ), instalar las dependencias necesarias para la instalación del motor de la base de datos, así como la creación del usuario "oracle", la modificación de los parámetros en el archivo "sysctl.conf" y la modificación del archivo limits.cof.

Así que esperas para empezar a travesar...?
