Beginning January 2019, not more Oracle Database 11g & 12c R1 in Cloud Service

We're updating the selection of available database releases within the Oracle Database Cloud Service. Beginning January 2019, Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and Oracle Database 12c Release 1 will no longer be available for service instance provisioning within the Oracle Database Cloud Service.

How will this change affect me?

These release versions will no longer be available as a selection for provisioning in the service web portal, the API, or the command-line interface (CLI). Existing service instances using these relational database management system (RDBMS) releases will continue to operate and be fully supported through their Premier Support period or their Extended Support period (when applicable), as found in the Oracle Lifetime Support document. At the end of the Premier Support period or the Extended Support period, these RDBMS releases will no longer be supported in the Oracle Database Cloud Service.

Please note that this announcement is specific to the provisioning of new database instances via Oracle Database Cloud Service and that this change has no impact on the use of these RDBMS releases within on-premises environments or within Oracle Cloud IaaS environments.

Do I need to take action?

If you are using, or are planning to use, one of the release versions listed above, Oracle recommends that you plan an upgrade to a supported RDBMS release (e.g., Oracle Database 12c Release 2 or Oracle Database 18c) before services using Oracle Database 11g Release 2 or Oracle Database 12c Release 1 enter the unsupported state.

When will this change take place?

This change is expected to take place within the month of January 2019, at which point Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and Oracle Database 12c Release 1 will no longer be available for service instance provisioning.
